Cape Girardeau, MO – Two recent thefts of Lay's Potato Chips have Cape Girardeau Police scratching their heads. In both cases vending machine sized bags of potato chips were stolen out of trucks at the Cape Girardeau Frito Lays' facility. To get to their small bounty, the robbers bashed in the driver side windows of three Frito Lay trucks. Officer Darrin Hickey of the Cape Girardeau Police Department says he can't fully understand the motive behind either of the break-ins.
"You gotta think that a window is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks, and chips are worth a few dollars. So they're doing more damage to the vehicle than they are getting from the vehicle."
There are no suspects in either case. Hickey says the similarities between the two thefts point to the same person or persons for both robberies.
