Springfield, IL – Illinois home foreclosure activity fell 3.5 percent in July compared to the previous month. A report released Thursday by California-based RealtyTrac shows Illinois with around 10,000 foreclosure filings last month. These include default notices, auction-sale notices and bank repossessions. The filings represent one in every 498 housing units in the state. That rate is almost 46 percent lower than in July of last year, but the ninth-highest nationally. RealtyTrac attributes the decreases in many states to paperwork processing delays as well as national and state efforts to help homeowners prevent foreclosure and stay in their homes.
