McCracken Officials May Buy Flood Victims' Property

By Associated Press

McCracken County, KY – McCracken County officials have applied for federal funding to purchase property from flood victims. The McCracken County Fiscal Court voted last week to apply to participate in the Federal Emergency Management Agency buy-out program. The move is an effort to help about 30 property owners who had significant flood damage this past spring. McCracken Judge-Executive Van Newberry told The Paducah Sun commissioners would have to vote to commit to the buy-out if the application is approved. Under the program, no structures would be allowed to be built on the properties again. Newberry says if the county commits, it will take about a year before it has full ownership of the properties and is able to clear away structures currently there.
