Kentucky ACT Scores Remain Lower than National

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – Only 16 percent of Kentucky's 2011 graduating class scored high enough on the crucial ACT college entrance exam to be considered ready for college in English, reading, math and science. That number was released this week by ACT Incorporated., the nonprofit that administers the test nationwide. The number is unchanged from last year. The data show Kentucky's most recent graduating class tallied an average composite score of 19.6 on the exam, which scores on a scale of 1 to 36. The nationwide average composite was 21.1. Just over a third of the Kentucky graduating class failed to reach the minimum level in all four subjects considered essential for college success. Educators say those students would require remedial classes to prepare them for rigorous college work.
