Louisville, KY – The Louisville Tea Party hosted a town hall meeting yesterday featuring U.S. Senator Rand Paul, who focused his remarks on government regulation and the recent debt ceiling compromise. Addressing the crowd of over 200, Paul said the cuts being proposed in Congress don't go far enough. He blamed the downgrade in the U.S. credit rating on the lack of serious cuts to federal spending. Tea Party President Wendy Caswell says the movement is proud of Paul and other candidates backed by the Tea Party.
"Of course we always want more from our government and the debt ceiling deal didn't go exactly as we had hoped for, but at least we had the conversation. I think our movement has done its justice in actually getting the conversation started and they have definitely taken that Tea Party movement to Washington for us."
The forum also hosted Republican, Libertarian and independent candidates running for statewide offices. A Tea Party spokesman said Democratic candidates either did not respond or declined their invitation.
