Hopkins Endorses Beshear in Kentucky's Gubernatorial Race

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Former Kentucky Republican Congressman Larry Hopkins has abandoned a former political ally who once served as his campaign manager and endorsed Democratic Governor Steve Beshear for re-election. Hopkins announced Thursday he is endorsing Beshear over GOP candidate David Williams. Williams and Hopkins were once political allies. Williams served as campaign manager when Hopkins sought the GOP nomination for governor in 1991. Hopkins says he prefers Beshear in this year's race because he has shown a willingness to reach out to both Republicans and Democrats to solve the state's problems. Beshear holds a strong lead in the polls over Williams and a third independent candidate, Lexington attorney Gatewood Galbraith.
