Murray, KY – An old cantilever steel bridge on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard in Clarksville, Tennessee will go out with a bang tonight. The Tennessee Department of Transportation intends to use precision detonations to collapse the bridge on U.S. 79 into the Red River. Construction of a replacement bridge is wrapping up, and the new span is already carrying traffic. If weather cooperates, the bridge will be blown up at about 10 p.m. Traffic on the highway will be stopped for about five minutes for the detonation. A crew will salvage the steel from the river.
