Murray, KY – Virginia's 5.8 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Bluegrass. Another earthquake happened in Colorado last night. Zheming Wang of the Kentucky Geological Survey says it's surprising that the area around the New Madrid fault line hasn't seen more activity lately, considering these unusually-placed earthquakes.
"New Madrid right now is quite quiet. We run a network down there that's recording not really anything significant at this point; and more from other areas. Like earlier, there was an earthquake in Arkansas. Now we have the biggest one in the past few decades in Virginia."
Wang says that these quakes are no indicator of future seismic activity.
