Murray, KY – Nortonville officials have approved a 65% increase in water rates to raise funds for a new water system. The city's existing lines were built in 1936 and are in constant need of repair. At present, the city experiences 10-12 water line breaks each month. The Madisonville Messenger reports the cost of replacing the system would be $3.5 million. The city is currently attempting to raise funds for the project and the rate hike is designed to address the lack of financing. The increase takes effect on September 1st.
