Hopkins County, KY – The Hopkins County-Madisonville Public Library has reinstated workers' salaries that were cut after a 20 percent reduction in funding. The library's board of trustees had cut salaries by 5 and a half percent earlier this year to make up for the loss without reducing services. Board Vice-President Gary Hunt says the money being used to pay for the reinstated salaries comes from the resignation of a library employee, which created a budget surplus. Hunt says most of the libraries' programs are unaffected by the cuts.
