Lexington, KY – Hundreds of people gathered at the University of Kentucky Arboretum Saturday to remember the 49 lives lost when Comair Flight 5191 crashed at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport. The five year anniversary ceremony included the dedication of a sculpture. The piece features 49 silver birds flying up toward heaven.
"Seeing this in person and to know it's been done so tastefully, it really is just an incredible piece of artwork."
Jason Bizzack lost his mother Carole in the crash. The victims' names are etched in granite at the base of the sculpture. A fundraising effort is still underway to establish a Flight 5191 Memorial maintenance fund.
