Tennessee Authorities Expect Surge in Heroin Use

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Tennessee law enforcement agents say they're bracing for a resurgence of heroin use. Police say prescription pill abusers are turning to the drug as a low-cost alternative. Authorities say one dose of heroin can go for as little as $10. An illegal prescription pill can cost anywhere from 30 to 80 dollars. Court records from an ongoing Nashville heroin case show just how easy it is for users to gain access to the drug. According to the records, dealers operated a service that delivered heroin to customers in parking lots and shopping malls. Authorities say many new heroin users are young people.
