DEA raids Owensboro pharmacy

By Lisa Autry

Bowling Green, KY – Federal agents were at the scene of an Owensboro pharmacy today investigating a case of missing prescription pain medicine. The Drug Enforcement Administration seized all controlled substances from Mayfair Pharmacy. Officer Marian Cosgrove with the Owensboro Police Department says the drug seizure followed an audit of the pharmacy.

"During their audit, they looked at a 2-year time period and just one of the drugs that was in question was a certain type of hydrocodone. Of that pill, in that 2 year time period, there were approximately 130,000 of those pills were unaccounted for. That's just one drug, out of many, that they found discrepancies with."

Mayfair Pharmacy will be allowed to stay in business, although it will not be able to fill prescriptions for controlled substances. Earlier this year, Owensboro police arrested Tena Kirby, a former employee of Mayfiar pharmacy. She and her husband Steven were charged with drug trafficking. A search of their home turned up 12-hundred dollars worth of hydrocodone and amphetamines.
