Frankfort, KY – Kentucky State Parks Commissioner Gerry Van Der Meer says they've received favorable results from the first month of alcohol sales in the parks. He says beer is now available at Lake Barkley and five other parks across the Commonwealth.
"The introduction of alcoholic beverages is intended to meet the growing need and requests we have received from customers, and to further grow corporate and association business in our state parks, particularly in off-season periods. We believe this will lead to increases in our lodging, food, golf, and convention business."
Van Der Meer believes alcohol sales will help the parks attract more conventions. He says the state's parks will remain family-friendly places and strive to manage their new service responsibly.
