Prisoners Work in State Parks

By KPR

Mayfield, KY – State representative Fred Nesler of Mayfield says Kentucky parks may be able to get more maintenance and repairs done by using prison labor. Nesler says there are skilled workers in the corrections system who could lend a hand in the state's 51 parks

"I would think that there would be lots of expertise of individuals that are incarcerated that would be a great asset as far as a lot of maintenance work, carpentry work, and just general maintenance."

Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Marcheta Sparrow says the parks have used inmates on certain projects. But she says the justice cabinet would need to look at their involvement on a wider scale.
