Nortonville, KY – Nortonville residents will see 65% hike in their water bills this fall to offset a 3.5 million dollar debt for upgrading the city's current water system. Mayor Berry Merrill says the refurbishing of the 75 year old system includes expanding 2 inch water lines in rural areas to 6 inches, allowing fire hydrants to be installed outside of city limits. Merrill says assistance programs will be available to some residents to help pay the larger bill. The city expects those programs to be in place by October before the hike takes place.
