Murray, KY – Cooler temperatures on the horizon and schools in session mean flu season is coming our way. Purchase Area District Health Director Charlie Ross says getting the shot now can be beneficial, though most people wait until the cold weather comes and immune systems are already weakened.
"We certainly encourage you to go ahead. But if you want to wait, typically I wouldn't say you'd want to wait much past October/November. Some are still offering it in December, but typically you'd like to try to get it in the fall season."
The immunization typically takes around two weeks to take effect. Purchase Area Health District centers are expected to begin distributing the immunization by the end of September.
