Marshall County land acquired for Indiana Bat habitat

KNLT

By Rose Krzton-Presson

Murray, KY – The Indiana Bat Conservation Fund acquired two tracts of forested land in Marshall County to preserve habitat for the endangered Indiana Bat. The Fund worked with the US Fish and Wildlife and the Kentucky Natural Lands Trust to purchase the area in the Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge. The 453 acres are in close proximity of a bat colony east of rapidly-expanding Paducah. The land contains the best remnants of the bat's ideal habitat in Kentucky and will ultimately be added to the National Wildlife Refuge system.
