Voter Education Gears Up Ahead of Photo ID Law

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – A new Tennessee law requiring most voters to show photo ID card at polling places next year is leading to education efforts by state officials and interest groups. State Election Coordinator Mark Goins says if his agency's voter education campaign goes as planned, the new law will have limited impact. His office has been informing county election workers on how to implement the new rules. They will later work to update civic organizations. Direct mailings to affected voters also are possible. AARP has a plan to get the word to its nearly 650,000 Tennessee members. Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester says his organization already is distributing voter education materials.
