Quinn Aides Considered Cuts to Parole, Revenue

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's administration says it considered deep cuts to parole officers and tax collectors while looking for ways to balance the state budget. Officials also considered cutting programs moving people with disabilities and mental illness into community care. Quinn aide Kelly Kraft says those ideas have been discarded. She says they never rose above the level of brainstorming. Still, Kelly acknowledges the administration shared those ideas with the General Assembly as recently as Tuesday. Quinn says legislators haven't given him enough money to keep state government running for a full year. He says he'll have to make deep cuts to keep within the approved budget. Quinn is expected to announce the cuts he thinks must be made soon.
