Murray, KY – A Kentucky National Guard official says fewer soldiers from units across the Commonwealth will be sent overseas. The announcement comes as the U-S continues to draw down its forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, Kentucky Guard Brigadier General Lonnie Culver says some deployments will still be necessary. General Culver says,
"As we draw down, the Kentucky National Guard deployments will lessen as well but they won't be eliminated. The 149th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade just completed the mobilization and deployment of the largest single unit mobilization since WWII for service in Iraq with almost 14 hundred soldiers."
General Culver says the Kentucky guard currently has units ready to deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and the horn of Africa. He says previous units been involved in intelligence collection and analysis, route clearance and economic development.
