Murray, KY – The National Symphony Orchestra is asking Kentucky composers to submit proposals for a work of chamber music. The commission is part of the NSO's American Residency Program in Kentucky. The piece should be 10 to 15 minutes long and feature no more than six instruments. Kentucky Arts Council Communications Director Ed Lawrence says they're working with the NSO to select the winning composer. The symphony will perform the winning work at Washington, D.C.'s John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Lawrence says the contest is the last part of the Symphony's residency program in the state. He stated,
"This is the final leg and it's to identify a Kentucky composer that will be able to create a piece to be premiered at the Kennedy center and just kind of wind up what the talents that we have here in Kentucky are."
The winner will receive 5,000 dollars along with air travel and hotel accommodations for the premiere performance in Washington.
