Paducah, KY – West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah is among ten finalists for the Aspen Institute's College Excellence Program Award. The Aspen Institute announced today that WKCTC enters the last stage of a national competition for a $1 million dollar prize. WKCTC President Dr. Barbara Veazey says the region and state should take pride in the college's selection.
"For our college the vision is to become a preeminent community college nationwide. I believe that the Aspen Award says that we have achieved that goal."
The college has increased the number of students completing its programs by 23 percent over the past five years. WKCTC President Dr. Barbara Veazey says the award recognizes the value of education provided to their students.
"For our students it says that they are going to a college that provides an excellent education and we have the support services to help them be a success both on campus and after they graduate."
The institute will award the $1 million dollar prize to the top community college in the nation this December in Washington D.C.
