Murray, KY – Former Marine Dakota Meyer, who received the military's highest honor, has gotten a hero's welcome at his Kentucky home. In his first public appearance since receiving the Medal of Honor last week, Meyer served as grand marshal for Saturday's Cow Days Parade in Greensburg. The event brought in about 20,000 people to the town of 2,200. Local officials say they'll recognize September 17th as Dakota Meyer Day from now on to honor him and his fallen comrades. Governor Steve Beshear named Meyer a Kentucky Colonel. The recognition comes after Meyer charged into heavy gunfire in an Afghanistan valley to rescue comrades under attack from Taliban insurgents in 2009. His actions saved the lives of 36 people, both Americans and Afghans.
