Kentucky Lock Addition Project Running Out of Money

By Shelly Baskin

Murray, KY – Federal funding for The Kentucky Lock Addition project is running out and construction on the lock could stop completely. The 20 year project began in 1998, and if completed would reduce delays for vessels going through Kentucky Lake. Project Manager Don Getty says without Federal funding for the project they'll have to cease construction after completing the segments in progress. He says that would be in 2013. Getty says the project has cost about 330 million dollars so far and is expected to cost over 700 million dollars by the time it's complete.
