Murray, KY – Mayfield Elementary School has received an Energy Star certification. The certification, awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency this week, signifies the school operates in the top 25 percent of the EPA's energy proficiency levels. The school utilizes geothermal heating and cooling which cuts back on energy costs. Similar commercial buildings that earn an Energy Star certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
