Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Department of Education is expanding a new program to help increase teacher and principal effectiveness. The Teacher and Principal Growth and Effectiveness System can be used for both self-evaluation and outside assessment. Department of Education spokesperson Lisa Gross says the new program greatly improves an educator's ability to meet Kentucky Teaching Standards.
"This system is designed to provide very specific feedback. So that if a teacher looks at a standard and says well you know I'm really not doing the kinds of things that I need to do to reach this standard, this system will provide information on how that teacher could improve on that particular standard."
The program was used last year in a select group of school districts including Caldwell, Carlisle, Graves, and Marshall Counties. It expands this year into Christian, Lyon, and Trigg.
