Murray, KY – Forecasters say this weekend's rain and lightning could only be the tip of the iceberg as the seasons begin to change. McCracken County Emergency Management Meteorologist Beau Dodson says an upper-level low pressure moved into southern Illinois over the weekend, dragging up moisture and making for a drenched Sunday. The Paducah Sun reports the storm system dropped nearly 5 inches of rainfall at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and about 1 to 2 inches over southern Illinois and western Kentucky Sunday night. Dodson says the amount of rain would normally cause flooding concerns, but dry ground conditions prevented pooling. Dodson says though temperatures are expected to remain average to slightly below average this week, the seasonal change will mean increased severe thunderstorm chances and people need to be just as aware as they were in the spring.
