Elections Expert Discusses Voter ID Laws With Kentucky Legislators

By Shelly Baskin/Kentucky Enquirer

Frankfort, KY – An elections expert told Kentucky lawmakers that fear of voter fraud has led more states to require photo identification at the polls. Jennie Bowser of the National Conference of State Legislatures addressed the Interim Joint Task Force on Elections in Frankfort. The Kentucky Enquirer reports voter IDs have become a prominent campaign issue for state political candidates. Bowser says if photo IDs are required for voters, the state would have to print them at no charge, expand county clerk hours and conduct voter outreach. She says those measures have cost other states between $100,000 and $10 million.
