Murray, KY – The Kentucky Public Service Commission voted yesterday to adopt federal smart-grid standards for the Commonwealth's electrical utilities. The commission's move requires local utility companies to adopt smart-grid technology when updating or building new distribution and transmission infrastructure. Smart-grid technology allows for more efficient transmission of electricity, increased reliability and conservation throughout the state. The KPSC says it is important for local utilities to make energy efficiency a priority.
