Murray, KY – Specialty crops in Kentucky are getting a boost from the federal government by way of a $263,000 block grant. The grant to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture is one of 55 across the country aimed at helping strengthen the market for specialty crops, such as fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture. The USDA says more specialty crop producers are selling into local and regional markets.
