Murray, KY – Brookport, Illinois' city council voted against re-instating the city's former police chief yesterday. The council voted 4-3 against overriding Mayor Judy Askew's termination of Nheema Rodriguez-Cornelius. The Paducah Sun reports Illinois state law allows city aldermen to overturn the mayor's decision with a two-thirds majority vote. Rodriguez-Cornelius says she feels she was not given a fair chance and had hoped to be reinstated during the proceedings. Sergeant Steve Walker is currently serving as acting police chief as the city searches for a replacement.
