Sex Offenders Supervised During Halloween

By Gary Pitts

Murray, KY – Kentucky State probation and parole officers will be making unannounced visits to some sex offenders this Halloween to make sure they are not participating in the holiday. Officials say sex offenders who are under court mandated supervision are not allowed to have any contact with juveniles. But Halloween is a Holiday that makes this very difficult. George Glass is the District Supervisor for probation and parole in western Kentucky.

"They're not allowed to answer the door during Trick-or-Treat hours in their community. They're not allowed to take any children including their own door-to-door or to any community event celebrating Halloween."

He says they are also not allowed to wear costumes, put up decorations, or turn on their porch light, as these actions attract children. These regulations apply to only those sex offenders under supervision. There are just over 100 supervised sex offenders in western Kentucky, and over 1500 statewide.
