101st Leader Sees Changes for Troops

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – About two months after taking command of the famed 101st Airborne Division, Maj. Gen. James McConville spoke with The Associated Press about his plans for the division as the military is facing severe budget cuts and thousands of soldiers have recently returned from Afghanistan. The Massachusetts native said leadership's role is to manage these transitions for soldiers as they return to their families. Every week he talks to new soldiers coming to Fort Campbell, the post on the Tennessee-Kentucky state. He says he emphasizes discipline, physical and mental fitness and training. As Congress is debating restraints on military spending, McConville is leading a comprehensive review of all of Fort Campbell's programs for families and soldiers to improve them.
