Illinois Senate Delays Vote on Gambling Expansion

By Todd Hatton

Murray, KY – The Illinois Senate has delayed action on a major gambling expansion, but behind-the-scenes efforts are underway. Senate President John Cullerton says he'll meet with Governor Pat Quinn this morning. A Senate committee yesterday discussed a measure based on Quinn's requirements for more gambling. He wants five new casinos in the state, but not slot machines at race tracks. Quinn says the new legislation isn't a "serious effort" to address his concerns. Lawmakers say a measure along the lines of what Quinn wants can't get enough votes to pass. They want him to go along with the version including race track slots.
