Jerrell Appeals Circuit Court Ruling

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – The McCracken County Clerk has appealed a circuit court decision that forces his office to operate with more transparency. Lawyers on behalf of Jeff Jerrell are hoping to overturn a June decision forcing his office to switch to a fee pool structure from his pervious independent system. The fee pool structure requires the clerk's office to turn over excess funds to the county treasurer and seek approval from the fiscal court for expenditures. Other county offices are required to adhere to the fee pool structure, however before the ruling the county clerk's office was one of the few that had not. The Court of appeals will convene with a panel of three judges to hear the case. The Paducah Sun reports McCracken County Judge Executive Van Newberry recently sent a letter to Jerrell asking him to adhere to the fee pool system, however Jerrell refused citing his pending appeal.
