Paducah, KY – Paducah-based Dippin' Dots Incorporated is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Court documents show the company filed yesterday after fighting off foreclosure from Regions Bank for the past year. The novelty ice cream, sold mostly in theme parks, concert halls, and stadiums, was invented in 1988 at SIU Carbondale by microbiologist and Dippin' Dots founder Curt Jones. Documents show the company owes the bank around $11 million dollars. Production headquarters in Paducah employs around 200 people year-round, and doubles that during the summer. The Wall Street Journal reports most companies seeking Chapter 11 protection intend to reorganize finances and continue operation. Officials from Dippin' Dots were not immediately available for comment.
