Paducah, KY – Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials say high radiation levels detected on an empty cylinder delivered to Paducah's Gaseous Diffusion Plant Wednesday aren't dangerous. The cylinder had contained uranium hexafluoride. It was shipped back to the ConverDyne/Honeywell Metropolis Works Plant when a whistleblower and former plant employee reported the high readings were a "serious" problem. Union official Jim Key tells The Courier-Journal one of the workers who handled the cylinder volunteered to be monitored for any possible internal exposure to radiation.
