Murray, KY – As Lawmakers prepare in the coming months for the general assembly First District Kentucky Senator Ken Winters says the best way to make sure your lawmaker is aware of an issue is to tell them, but with personal direct communication. Winters says that lawmakers generally keep tabs on how many comments they have received on a particular issue. But he says when people either mail in pre-produced cards or send standardized e-mails, he doesn't feel they deserve consideration.
"If you don't have a passion enough for this issue to sit down and craft it in your own words, then I'm probably not going to, and I don't think many of our people would give it a great deal of attention."
Winters' comments came today at a Kentucky Youth Advocates regional "Step Up For Kids" summit in Murray. Winters, chairman of the Senate Education Committee, says of the 1400 bills filed in most sessions it's tough to be knowledgeable about all of them, but comments from constituents help guide to important issues facing his constituents.
