VA Addresses Womens' Care

By Charles Compton

Richmond, KY – For the first time in its history, the Veterans Administration must provide health care to a large number of women. VA researcher Neale Chumbler says America's newest generation of veterans is the most diverse ever, with women well represented in its ranks. Those female veterans now qualify for life-long care.

Chumbler says the newest generation of veterans will also have easier access to health care. Instead of relying on major medical centers, Chumbler says the VA's network of clinics is expanding into rural areas. He says the VA also relies more on telemedicine. WKMS has more on Kentucky's newest veterans Sunday morning at 9:00 during "11-11-11, A Veterans Day Special."
