Child Death Record Debate

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – Key lawmakers are pushing for a hearing to determine if the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services is being transparent in how it reports deaths and near deaths of children. State Representative Tom Burch and Senator Julie Denton tell the Lexington Herald-Leader they want to hold a hearing next month on the issue. Burch and Denton co-chair the Interim Joint Committee on Health and Welfare and say they are awaiting approval from legislative leaders to schedule a meeting of the panel. The issue has come to the forefront after a Franklin circuit judge recently ordered the release of records in the death of a 9-year-old girl in Todd County who was beaten to death.
