Advocate Says Beshear needs to Fix Child Welfare System

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – A leading children's advocate is urging Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear to overhaul the state's child welfare system. The call comes after a judge ordered the release of documents in the death of 9-year-old Amy Dye, who was beaten to death by her adoptive brother. Kentucky Youth Advocates executive director Terry Brooks says the issue is in dire need of the governor's attention. Beshear spokesman Terry Sebastian says the safety of Kentucky's children is one of the governor's top priorities. Sebastian says Beshear is reviewing all options available to see if there are steps to make them even safer.
