Murray, KY – An Illinois federal court has postponed candidate filing for congressional races while it decides a Republican lawsuit challenging Illinois' new redistricting map. A three-judge panel says candidate filing will begin December 23rd and end December 27th. The original filing period would have been Monday through the 5th of next month. The date was changed as judges deliberate a lawsuit seeking to throw out the state's new congressional district map, which was drafted by Democrats. Republicans contend it will decimate their congressional gains and dilute Latino voting power. If the map is still in dispute after December 21st, a new filing schedule will be set.
