Yellow Dot Program Launched in Illinois

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Illinois transportation officials have unveiled a traffic safety initiative designed to help first responders get critical information quickly. The Illinois Yellow Dot program will allow those who participate to be given a bright yellow decal for the rear window and a bright yellow folder for the glove box which will contain significant medical information, such as emergency contacts, doctor's information and medical conditions. The program is being coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation and other agencies. The transportation department says the program can help improve roadway safety by providing first responders crucial medial information they need to treat injuries. Transportation officials say the program was introduced in Connecticut in 2002. It is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
