Illinois Tax Break Package

By Associated Press

Springfield, IL – Illinois lawmakers are getting their first look at a new package of possible tax breaks for businesses that would cost state government about $250 million dollars a year. That's down from $850 million dollars in an earlier proposal. If the package passes, many large businesses would be in line for tax breaks. Smaller businesses could benefit from changes in estate taxes and credits for research costs. Families would get larger tax exemptions and there would an expansion of a tax credit for the poor. The House Revenue Committee is scheduled to consider the package today.
