Tennessee Gun Advocates Push for Less Regulation

By Gary Pitts/Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle

Nashville, TN – Tennessee gun rights advocates are pushing to loosen state gun laws. Supporters would like the Republican-led legislature to pass a bill doing away with permit requirements, open state parks to handguns, and make it easier to carry guns in school and workplace parking lots. Tennessee Firearms Association members want to model legislation after similar Arizona laws, but the debate has received little attention since the Arizona shooting earlier this year that killed six and wounded 12 others, including US Representative Gabrielle Giffords. TFA Executive Director John Harris tells the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle many Republicans run for office on a pro-gun platform, but could have a credibility problem going in to the next election.
