Murray, KY – Slippery Roads and heavy snow greeted the region's motorists and highway crews this morning. McCracken County Emergency Management Meteorologist Beau Dodson says the snow began last night in West Tennessee and the Missouri bootheel. He says an upper level low pressure system with low temperatures are to blame.
"That changed over our rain to snow which actually developed in bands this morning with thundersnow over parts of southern Illinois down into Ballard County, Kentucky. When you get these bands, you can have one, two, even three inches an hour of snow. Very local events."
Dodson says as these bands pass through, temperatures will rise and the snow should melt. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says road conditions have been the worst in Fulton County with numerous morning wrecks and cars sliding off the roads. Todd says conditions are improving. Meteorologist Beau Dodson says the region is in for more cold weather this week, and there could be more rain and snow this weekend.
