Murray, KY – Kentucky's Junior US Senator Rand Paul and South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham have introduced a new measure to reprioritize the dredging work that can keep small inland river harbors, like the Hickman River Port in Fulton County, open. The Harbor Equity Act lowers the amount of shipping tonnage a port sees annually to qualify for Army Corps of Engineers dredging assistance. Senator Paul says failure to pass the measure would hinder access to these ports, creating a negative ripple effect on communities that rely on river transport.
