KY Representatives Want Tax-Free Weekend

By Drew Adams

Murray, KY – Two Kentucky Republican state lawmakers want a tax-free weekend for back-to-school shoppers. Representatives Julie Adams and Donna Mayfield promised Monday to file legislation in the upcoming General Assembly lifting the state sales tax for one weekend shortly before the start of each school year. Their proposed exemption would be extended only to school supplies, clothing, computers and printers. Currently, twenty other states, including neighboring Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois, offer periods of tax-free shopping.
