Frankfort, KY – Governor Steve Beshear and Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson weren't the only state officials sworn in overnight. In accordance with the Kentucky Constitution, Adjutant General Edward Tonini was inducted shortly after midnight. Tonini, who serves as the Commanding General of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard says the Commonwealth must continue to deal with the tough economy.
"The Department of Defense is going to be squeezed just like all of government is going to be squeezed. And so we have to position the Kentucky National Guard in such a way that we can seize opportunities as we see them," he says.
Tonini is taking part in a national effort to reduce unemployment among Guard members and reservists. He says the goal is to create 100,000 jobs across the country specifically for Guardsmen by next Memorial Day.
